“Riverside Sunshine”
When Mark and Tiffani Roberts asked me to paint a wall mural, I immediately said “Yes!”. Nevermind that I had never painted one! The Roberts didn’t know what they wanted but they knew it had to be colorful. They had just purchased a warehouse in the Historic Riverside neighborhood of New Bern, NC. The building, damaged from Hurricane Florence in 2018, sits in the middle of a vibrant community that boasts historic homes, riverside parks and an active home owners association. Neighborhood BBQs, progressive holiday dinners, and springtime plant exchanges are a few of the things that bring people together. They are rebuilding and regrowing the neighborhood after the hurricane’s destruction. After I researched and sketched a few ideas, we decided on a wall of flowers with happy sunshine. My first mural was so much fun to paint and I can’t wait to paint the next one.
This is the before, but with a coat of primer.
Blank wall and excited girls.
The moment I realized I love painting on large concrete walls.
Me now realizing that large concrete walls aren’t as smooth or flat as a canvas.😂
Out of all the helpers, this boy was the goodest!
My daughter Sasha is the absolute best! And she’s a better artist than me.
